About the BSc Tourism Program

The program takes a broad view of tourism management, exploring issues and problems relevant to a wide range of situations and issues that managers and other professionals are likely to face. There is also a practical focus on the managerial and strategic issues in the rapidly developing tourism industry. This BSc program’s intensive but generalist approach prepares you for a wide range of possible careers in travel and tourism. Our graduates often take up employment opportunities in official tourist organizations, transport, hotels, tour operating and travel agency companies, government and other organizations where knowledge of tourism management is important.

Program Structure

In the first three years, a range of foundation courses provide students with an understanding of the role of the core business and marketing disciplines: economics, finance, operations and information management, human resource management, marketing as well as tourism management, and a third year core course provides a viewpoint on the structure and dynamics of the tourism industry and contemporary tourism markets and consumer trends. Alongside these courses, disciplinary courses provide training in economics and organizational behavior, and in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, so that students leave the program with a good understanding of the basis of tourism sustainability and development. The Department also offers options in subjects such as decision science, economics, employment relations, finance, information systems, leadership, management science, marketing, organizational behavior and strategy. Students will also have the opportunity to take courses in other related departments within the College.
